Richard Eckley

Coach Eckley is in his first year at Cedar Park High School.  He serves as a social studies teacher, Head Wrestling Coach, and Assistant Football Coach at CPHS.

Coach Eckley served as the Head Boys and Girls Wrestling Coach at Victoria East High School for the 2022-2023 season.  During his time at East, Coach Eckley focused on increasing participation and competitiveness in the program.  East High School’s boy’s team only entered 2 boys into the District Wrestling Championships in the season before Coach Eckley’s arrival, but in the 2023  district tournament 12 Titans Participated, including one competitor that was East’s first State Qualifier in several years.  Eckley also served as a varsity offensive line coach at East.

Prior to East, Coach Eckley was the Head Boys and Girls Wrestling Coach at Sharyland Pioneer High School in Mission, Texas.  Eckley was the first wrestling coach at Pioneer, and during his 8 years leading the Diamondbacks they won 3 Boys district championships(2017, 2018, 2019), 2 Girls district championships (2017, 2019) and 2 Boys district dual championships (2017, 2018).  During that time, Pioneer qualified 77 wrestlers to the Regional Tournament and 26 to the State Tournament.  Eckley served as the varsity offensive line coach at Pioneer as well.

From 2011 to 2014 Coach Eckley was an assistant wrestling coach at Irving MacArthur High School.  In 2012, while Eckley was at MacArthur, the Cardinals qualified their first ever wrestler to the UIL State Championships.  In 213 there were an additional 2 state qualifiers for MacArthur.

Eckley graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College in 2006 with a degree in History and Political Science, and Vermont Law School in 2009 with a Juris Doctor degree. He is certified to teach 8th-12th grade Social Studies, 6th-12th grade Business Education, and K-12 Special Education, as well as supplemental certifications in English as a Second Language and Gifted and Talented Education.

Coach Eckley’s hometown is Hedrick, Iowa, and he is a lifelong fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, and Mel Brooks movies.  He is also a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served as a Machinegunner in Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment.
